RESILIENT BOTANY

Resilient Botany is an ongoing project that has guided and shaped Hugues Simon’s artistic practice. Emerging from a reflection on the adaptability of plants, it explores botanical forms as symbols of resistance and persistence within a world saturated with images, signs, and human constructions.

Across different bodies of work and exhibitions, plant forms are transformed, stylized, and hybridized. They emerge from dense compositions layered with symbols, fragments of text, and graphic references. The plant is no longer simply represented; it becomes a language — a presence capable of infiltrating and reclaiming spaces dominated by human systems.

The project has gradually expanded into a broader exploration of memory, inner landscapes, and our relationship to the present. Each work becomes a kind of visual cartography, where traces and layers bring together the organic and the artificial, memory and imagination.

Presented in various exhibitions, Resilient Botany has evolved alongside the artist’s practice and has become a central thread of his current work. More than a series, it is an open field of research in which botanical forms embody the capacity to transform, persist, and take root again.

Resilient Botany is ultimately an exploration of life as a force of resistance — an archaeology of the present where fragility and strength, chaos and renewal remain in constant dialogue.
